  3. QUESTION:
How long before this company slits their own throat?
Internet Provider's Usage Cap Raises Questions

NEW YORK - Three months ago, Guy Distaffen switched Internet providers, lured from his cable company to his phone company by a year of free service on a two-year contract. But soon the company quietly updated its policies to say it would limit his Internet activity each month.

"We felt that were suckered," said Distaffen, who lives in the small village of Silver Springs in upstate New York.

The phone company, Frontier Communications Corp., is one of several Internet service providers that are moving to curb the growth of traffic on their networks, or at least make the subscribers who download the most pay more.

This could have consequences not just for consumers — who would have to learn to watch how much data their Internet use entails — but also for companies that hope to make the Internet a conduit for movies and other content that comes in huge files.

Cable companies have been at the forefront of imposing and talking about usage caps, because their lines are shared between households. Frontier's announcement is noteworthy because it is a phone company — and it is matching a seemingly low ceiling set by a main cable rival: just 5 gigabytes per month, the equivalent of about 3 DVD-quality movies.

"We go through that in a week," Distaffen said. "If they start enforcing the caps we're going to have to change service." Other subscribers on Broadbandreports.com, where the cap was first reported, echoed his feelings.

But since the other option for wired broadband in the village is Time Warner Cable Inc., switching providers isn't necessarily going to get Distaffen away from a bandwidth cap. The cable company is trying out a 5-gigabyte traffic cap for new users in Beaumont, Texas. Every gigabyte above that costs . More expensive plans have higher caps — at .90 per month, the allowance is 40 gigabytes. Depending on the results of the trial, Time Warner Cable may apply the same pricing structure elsewhere.

Frontier's biggest market is in Rochester, N.Y., where it competes with Time Warner Cable.

"... experts cited by The Times indicated that the difference in rent between what Rangel was paying and market rates on the second, third and fourth apartments he rented, an estimated ,000 per year, could be construed as a gift as the savings is granted at the discretion of the landlord and is not offered to the public at large; if this should be treated as a gift, it would exceed the 0 limit established by the House of Representatives"

"...discrepancies in the value listed for a property he owns in Sunny Isles, Florida .."

"... and inconsistencies in investment fund reporting."

"An article in the September 18, 2008 New York Post states, "Rep. Charles Rangel has been using a House of Representatives parking garage for years as free storage space for his old Mercedes-Benz - a violation of congressional rules and a potential new tax woe ..."

"On November 23, 2008, the New York Post reported that Rangel took a "homestead" tax break on his Washington, DC house for years while simultaneously occupying multiple New York City rent-stabilized apartments, "possibly violating laws and regulations in both cases."

my dad has a well established business in India and i aspire to make the products fit to be exported globally...........

I hav spoken to few persons and now i have two options...

Do an MBA or MS in management in abroad ( uk or us)
work there for 3-4 yrs and then come back to india and take over my dads business..

    or

Do an MBA in india and simultaneously start a new venture whilst studying..
Apply my techniques and tweak it..
    get it well established..
Then after studying work for sometime and merge mine and take over my dads business...

The advantage of doing mba in abroad is that we will have global exposure..
and a few say that in US which is highly affected by recession, is the perfect market place to do MBA

disadvantage is u might get over exposed for current Indian market and later have to come down to understand it...
next is u ll be studying the local companies over there which u might not be familiar with..

Advantage of doing here in India is
v get lot of new contacts who will be big shots in the future and can be in constant touch with them to establish ur business..
and the study of a developing market is very useful as u can predict a few things..

Disadvantage is that u might get under exposed when considering long-time..

    As i said earlier..
My aim is to introduce a lot of products and meet the global standards and start exporting making my dads business a global empire...
my extra curicular activities are musical jingle composer, skilled in maya animation, skilled in internet marketing, skilled in MS office..
have spent 6 months in e-marketing if that could help....

    Any help?????????

Since i am basically physically challenged, working before a post graduation is not appropriate for me...

I ve searched in the internet and stumbled upon

European School of Economics which offers courses in Paris , London , New York , Florence and Rome ....

I think the course MS in Management suits me cause that offers the following courses -

    • Modern Business Research Methods
    • 21st Century Advanced Business Structures
    • Organisations and their Cultures
    • Managing for Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility
    • Decision-making
    • Management of Resources and Operations

    • Entrepreneurialism and Leadership
    • Globalised Information and Communication Systems
    • International Project Management
    • International Business Management
    • Human Resources Management
    • International Strategic Marketing

    • Research Methods and Modelling Techniques
    • Internship Programme (3-months)

These subj are relevant to my dream...

But Wharton School Of Business also accepts students from the world with 3 yrs degree...
    and stanford also the same...

But they ask for work experience... at the same time it can be excepted in certain circumstances....

as i said my ailment prevents me to work before further studies...

This is as far as i ve collected...

    Pls help!!!!!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
To be successful in the export market, its my understanding that knowledge of the world economy would help. You would probably do better if you were to understand what foreign markets expect from suppliers in India.

Perhaps its not just cheap prices they are interested in, but quality as well. Perhaps environment-friendly companies like to deal with 'green' suppliers, since the world is growing increasingly conscious about climate change. Perhaps they don't want any toxic chemicals in the products they are importing. Which is the reason why they re doing business with Indian suppliers and not Chinese companies. All these would perhaps be better understood with some international exposure.

"disadvantage is u might get over exposed for current Indian market and later have to come down to understand it...
next is u ll be studying the local companies over there which u might not be familiar with.."

      1. Well, you plan to come back eventually to take over your dad's business, don't you?

      2. Thats precisely the point, to introduce you to global markets, HR practices, work ethics, reporting and accounting standards et all which have ensured the international proliferation of US companies across the globe while Indian companies languish at the bottom, shying away from going global, rarely venturing out of their own backyard. There is obviously a reason why US companies have become global brand names while Indian companies don't have brand value abroad. Just consider the case of Dell and HCL in the hardware sector, both established at around approximately the same time, in the early eighties.

Eventually, its important to be comfortable with whatever course you choose. So I would say follow your heart. Names like Wharton and Stanford are more recognised than schools like European School of Economics, and for a reason, namely the superior quality of management education imparted. But as I said before, being able to feel at ease with a particular program is equally, if not more important, one that will determine how well you complete your program.

Dhirubhai Ambani built one of India's leading companies. His sons went to Wharton and Stanford and built some of the world's leading companies. What more proof of the quality of US education do you need?

      All the best.

  10. QUESTION:
Are opinion polls reliable for determining the outcome of a primary? Does this explain Ron Paul's lower #'s ?
Many supporters have been wondering or even worrying about the weak 1–3% opinion polling support Ron Paul has had. There are several reasons why opinion polling produces these results that most people do not know about.

    1) Opinion polls are mostly conducted by using telephone landlines. The reason is that landline numbers are easy to obtain, and they produce a fairly accurate and random result for most questionnaires. As known from marketing, each product has a life cycle, and those who hang on to landline numbers tend to be late adopters of new technology. These late adopters do not use the internet, so they have (most likely) not even heard of Ron Paul. For them the choice is still between Rudy McRomney which is thus reflected on the polling result. Due to this sampling error the real support for Ron Paul is most likely stronger than the opinion polls show.

    2) Many opinion polls count answers selectively. They reason that by counting only certain given opinions, uncertainty and randomness will be reduced in the opinion polling results. For example, the opinion polls ask questions such as: are you a registered supporter of the Republican party, have you voted in primaries before, what is your yearly income, when where you born etc. These questions are then used to eliminate groups such as non-registered republicans or young people. Even if this elimination is mostly statistically justified, it reduces the showing support for surprise candidates such as Ron Paul, especially when an important part of Ron Paul's campaign is to mobilize voters who do not usually vote in primaries.

    3) In order to reduce the inaccuracy between two polls conducted by the same pollster, vote multipliers are added, which can be based on earlier polls, prior elections, "scientific" analyzes or just simply guesses. Here is how they work. Let's say that a vote multiplier for Rudy Giuliani is 1.2, for John McCain 1.5 and for Ron Paul –3.0. If the pure poll gives Giuliani 25%, McCain 10% and Ron Paul 10% of the vote, the opinion polls are counted to show 30% for Giuliani, 15% for McCain and only 3% for Ron Paul. The chances are that opinion polls for Ron Paul have negative multipliers, since no-one conducting the polls believes that he can win. The same phenomenon has happened in various European countries during the last five years when so-called far right parties (with anti-immigration, anti-EU and fiscal conservative views) have taken many land-slide victories, even if their results in opinion polls have been often either poor or mediocre.

    4) Opinion polls are not value free or interest neutral. Even if the opinion polling company would want to conduct a poll on honest scientific standards, they still know that their poll has been ordered by USA Today, NBC, FOX News, the Washington Post or the New York Times. So a polling company's self-interest is to produce a result that the mainstream media likes. These news agencies are not interested in polls that predict a great result for Ron Paul, if they would get one, they would not publish it. This can be seen by just looking back at the polling results from as late as late April. During late April most polls did not even include Ron Paul as a potential running candidate! He only starts to show up regularly after mid-May, where as undeclared 'candidate' Fred Thompson has been included since the very beginning.

Opinion polls often lie, just like statistics do. The opinion polling for the Republican primary clearly underestimates Ron Paul's real popularity, which may already be around 10%. For example, sportsbook.com (a betting site – not a pro–Ron Paul site) currently places his odds 5th in the Republican candidate nomination race and 9th in the 2008 Presidential Elections. But let's suppose that I am wrong and the opinion polls do show the real support for Ron Paul. Still, his chances for winning are very good, for the following reasons.

    1) As Justin Ptak correctly pointed out, "the national polls are entirely a reflection of name identification, not voters' views of the candidates." For example Carter was only polling 1% in 1975 and he won the presidency. Back in 1991 Clinton's support was at 2% and he became the president. Joe Lieberman was leading the Democratic presidential nomination in 2003, yet he failed to win a single primary.

    2) The opinion polls also fail to grasp that the Ron Paul revolution is not only a revolution of ideas; it is also revolutionizing campaign methods. Campaign methods seldom change, but in the US presidential elections they have done so twice in the past. Back in 1825 when John Quincy Adams won the presidency he revolutionized campaigning by distributing buttons and other campaign gimmicks. A second campaigning revolution took place in the 1961 elections when the televised mass media made JFK the president. The Ron Paul revolution of 2008 could be the third campaigning revolution. Earlier it was easier for politicians to lie and get away with it. Today prior speeches and voting records are easily obtainable and thus politicians become increasingly accountable of what they have ever said or done. Furthermore the mass media can no longer determine the election winners. In such an environment the few sincere honest politicians like Ron Paul will win.

    3) All conducted opinion polls measure the general opinion on candidates. In elections where half the nation votes, such as the presidential election, the opinion poll results are crucial. In elections where only a minority of activists vote the opinion polling results are unimportant. The primaries are activist elections and despite all attempts to reduce uncertainty and randomness by the opinion polling companies (e.g. by methods mentioned above), the randomness and uncertainty still remain. This is due to the fact, that it is almost impossible to separate the activists from the rest in an opinion poll. For example, in the presidential primaries of 2004 only 7.2% of the Americans voted! The Democratic turnout was 11.4%, the Republican turnout only 6.6%! In these cases straw polling matters more than general opinion polls, since straw polls are conducted in places where only the best-informed and most active voters gather. In straw polls Ron Paul has done extremely well, always placing first or second, once he even made a land sliding victory gaining 65% of the popular support!

    4) The opinion polls give out the impression that a candidate needs to gather millions of votes in most states in order to get the party's presidential nomination. As noted above, with only 7.2% of the Americans voting in the 2004 primaries, this is not the case. For example, in New Hampshire with a population of 1,200,000 the size of the voting age population is around 1,000,000. If 20% of the shire folk would vote (an extremely high number for a presidential primary) 200,000 votes would be cast. Half would be democratic votes. Thus even if Ron Paul would race himself against all the other republican candidates, he would win with just 51,000 votes. And this is the pessimist scenario. Most likely the voting turnout will be around 10% and no other GOP candidate will gather more than 30% of the state's votes. In this case Ron Paul will win the New Hampshire primary with only 15,000 votes! As the CNHT straw poll shows, Ron Paul already has 200 votes and judging by some videos, there are at least a thousand dedicated Ron Paulians in New Hampshire. How hard can it be for them to gather 14,000 more votes for Dr. Paul? Using the same analogy, in California, the most populous state of the Union with 36,500,000 people, the GOP primary can be won with only 450,000 votes. Ron Paul will be aided further by the fact that five small states of Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Wyoming and Maine hold their primaries before Super-Tuesday and every single primary victory will give him an election boost. The smaller the state is, the easier it is to gather a grassroots movement that can influence the election result.

In the primary phase of the presidential elections the ingenuity of the Ron Paul campaign will be clearest. All other GOP candidates adhere to some stripe of neoconservatism, which will only attract the support of the old voters (i.e. of those 6.6% of the Republicans that voted in the 2004 presidential primary). The neoconservative message is old and widely hated. Ron Paul provides a culturally conservative, libertarian option with fresh ideas that appeal not only to many old voters, but to thousands of new voters who have never voted in primaries before. He has already succeeded in turning the whole Constitution party, half of the Libertarian party and many, many anti-war Democrats into registered Ron Paul Republicans. Ron Paul is also about to succeed in waking up the elderly Republican voters with the traditional conservative Republican message of life, liberty and property. The neoconservatives cannot beat him. Their individual candidates are all too power hungry to give up the race and join forces under one name in order to defeat Dr. Paul. With the primaries moved closer to each other they have no longer the option to drop out in the middle of the race, meaning that the neoconservative vote will be shattered between a dozen candidates in every, single, state.

The Ron Paul revolution has already succeeded. It has brought a lot of attention to the libertarian ideas of peace and a limited government. It has also put a strain on the mass media, who can no longer deliver any information they want in any manner they please. Just like a real revolution the Ron Paul revolution has become a movement everyone wants to join. The real test for the Ron Paul revolution is not the victory over the GOP nomination, the question is how to win the presidency from a Hillary-Obama ticket, which will undoubtedly be seen as a dream team by the academia, the mass media, the special interest groups, the bureaucrats and the politicians.

  11. QUESTION:
'Colbert,' 'SpongeBob' may go dark on Time Warner?
LOS ANGELES – "SpongeBob SquarePants" might get squeezed off Time Warner Cable.

Media giant Viacom Inc. said its Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark for 13 million subscribers at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal with Time Warner Cable Inc. is not agreed upon by then.

The impasse would mean "SpongeBob" and other popular shows like Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" and Stephen Colbert's "The Colbert Report" will be cut off on the nation's second-largest cable operator. Time Warner Cable primarily serves people in New York state, the Carolinas, Ohio, Southern California and Texas.

Viacom has asked for fee increases of between 22 percent and 36 percent per channel, or a total of million more, an amount that could increase customers' cable bills, said Time Warner Cable spokesman Alex Dudley.

"The issue is that they have asked for an exorbitant increase in their carriage fees and their network ratings are sagging," Dudley said. "Basically we're trying to hold the line for our customer."

Viacom spokeswoman Kelly McAndrew disputed the figure, saying Viacom requested an increase in the very low double-digit percentage range.

Viacom said the increases would cost an extra 23 cents a month per subscriber. It said that Americans spend a fifth of their TV time watching Viacom shows but its fees make up less than 2.5 percent of the Time Warner cable bill.

"We make this request because Time Warner Cable has so greatly undervalued our channels for so long," Viacom said.

"Ultimately, however, if Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV and the rest of our programming is discontinued — over less than a penny per day — we believe viewers will see this behavior by their cable company as outrageous," Viacom said.

Time Warner Cable's Dudley said Viacom rejected his company's proposal to extend the contract while the sides continue to negotiate.

Instead, Viacom appealed directly to Time Warner Cable's customers, with TV ads in major markets. In Wednesday's New York Times, the company ran a full-page, color advertisement with Nickelodeon's animated bilingual heroine "Dora the Explorer" crying and clinging to her monkey pal, Boots.

"Why is Dora crying?" the ad asks. "Time Warner Cable is taking Dora off the air tonight!" The ad urges viewers to call Time Warner Cable and demand that their favorite shows remain on the air.

If the shows go dark after midnight, Time Warner Cable will send people to the Internet to catch episodes. Dudley said the cable operator also will make available a video teaching people how to hook their computers up to the TV to watch online shows — a tactic it used during a contract dispute with broadcaster LIN TV in October.

Part of the disagreement is that most of Viacom's popular shows are rerun on Web sites where Viacom collects advertising revenue that it does not share with Time Warner, Dudley said. "We don't think that's fair," he said.

Viacom has staked much of its revenue-growth prospects on its ability to extract higher carriage rates out of its cable and satellite affiliates despite an ad slowdown and weak ratings.

In the third quarter, media network revenue, which accounts for about two-thirds of Viacom's total, grew 6 percent to .1 billion, despite global ad revenue falling 2 percent, largely because of double-digit percentage growth in affiliate fees and the success of its "Rock Band" video game.

Viacom shares rose 45 cents, 2.3 percent, to .71 in late morning trading Wednesday. Time Warner Cable shares lost 39 cents, 1.8 percent, to .37.

The channels that would be affected are: Comedy Central, CMT: Pure Country, Logo, Palladia, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, MTV Tr3s, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic, and VH1 Soul.

  12. QUESTION:
    1. What have been the key success factors for Sony?
Sony Started as a radio repair shop, founded by Masuru Ikura and Akio Morita after Would War II. The company began its long history of producing compact consumer electronics in 1957, when it introduced the World’s first pocket-sized all-transistor radio. The company’s name, Sony, was taken from Sony, the Latin word for “sound” Sony went on to invest a series of transistor-based TVs and increasingly smaller audiocassette recorders. In 1979, the Sony Walkman introduced the World to a new, portable way of listening to music. Sony became a world leader in consumer electronics and was the first Japanese company to have its shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

In the late 1980s, Sony began expanding into media, purchasing a U.S. record company (CSB records for billion in 1988). And a major Hollywood studio (Columbia Pictures for .9 billion in 1989). The purchases made Sony a major force in the entertainment industry.

The importance of marketing at Sony started with Akio Morita, who said that for a company to be successful, it must have three kinds of creativity: creativity to make inventions, creativity in planning and production, and creativity in marketing.

Creativity in marketing at Sony means not just cleaver ads, but deep insight into its customers. For example, Sony knows its playstation customers like to find clues and to decode things. So Sony’s ads for playstation 2, like “Signs,” feature a young man walking the streets of a city where he encounters various signs foreshadowing the events. Mannequins appear in a store window, arms outstretched, and point enigmatically to something that’s about to happen. “The lead character is almost in the midst of his own role-playing game. He needs to follows clues to save the heroine”, said Andrew House, Sony’s executive vice president of marketing. In the ads, “we were essentially trying to tap into a range of emotions that we think we deliver in the games – intrigue, forebonding, excitement, panic, relief and achievement at the end”.

Sony’s marketing also includes careful measurement of each campaign’s effectiveness. Foe example, Sony runs 30-second commercials for its Playstation as part of the previews in more than 1,800 theatres and on 8,000 movie screens. The ads appear before such films as “The Cat in the Hat”. Sony Computer Entertainment America has been running movie ads for six years.” Cinema advertising has been very effective for us”, said Amil Blaire, director of product marketing.” The reason why we have committed to cinema every year is the tremendous unaided recall shown by our own research and communicus – commissioned ad tracking”.

Another example of measurement is Sony’s GenY youth marketing efforts. “The online program promoting the NetMD ATRAC CD Walkman and Cybershot U30 ran July 1 through September 30, 2003, and we found that more than 70 percent static banners”, said Serge Del Grosso, Director of Media and Internet Strategy, Sony Electronics”.

In fact, Sony has even developed a direct-marketing solution which it sells to other companies who want to measure marketing effectiveness. The product, called eBridge[TM], allows marketers to use video, measure the effectiveness of the campaign, and gain insight into the target audience, all in one package.

Sony expects that the next big breakthrough will not come from a single new electronic device.Rather, Sony President Kunitake Ando says that the future lies in making a whole range of devices more usefully linking them in a networked home-entertainment system. The company believes that its clout in consumer electronics, combined with its media content, will allow it to steer that convergence in a way that suits it. Whether the future of convergence resides in TV’s or PC’s or devices , -billion Sony makes every one of them- with a strong brand name that gives them an extra push off retail shelves around the world.

    1. What have been the key success factors for Sony?

    2. What recommendations would you make to senior marketing executives going forward? What should they he sure to do with its marketing?

  13. QUESTION:
    Is this sentence grammatically correct?
Barnes & Noble was late to enter the internet bookstore market compared to Amazon and failed to occupy the market as the market pioneers. Instead, they gained the benefits as a latecomer. For example, there was a broad customer base with lots of internet shopping knowledge thanks to Amazon. Therefore, there was no need for a separate training buffer time for internet shopping. Also, they did not have to establish a separate brand strategy because they simply used the existing Barnes & Noble brand name, which has a dominant presence in the existing book market. Likewise, they were able to minimize establishment and operation costs by using the operation system, data processing, database and extensive network. We call such expansion “From Bricks and mortar to Click and mortar”. Entering the internet bookstore market with much quicker clock speed from the offline market with much slower clock speed might have been a dangerous challenge, but they fully utilized the massive economies of scale benefits. They are showing successful moves as a newcomer by carrying out joint promotions with prominent companies such as America Online, The New York Times, Disney Online and CNN using the brand name Barnes & Noble.

    • ANSWER:
Although Barnes & Noble was among the last to enter the internet bookstore market compared to other pioneers, they reaped benefits as a latecomer. For example, there was already a broad customer base with plenty of internet experience, thanks to companies like Amazon, so internet shopping was readily accessible for their target consumer. Also, they didn’t have to establish a separate brand strategy because of the dominant presence of the Barnes & Noble stores in the existing book market. Likewise, they were able to minimize establishment and operation costs by using the same operation system, data processing, database and other extensive networks. We call such expansion “from Brick-and-mortar to Click-and-mortar”. Coming from the lower key offline market and plunging into the much quicker internet bookstore market at clock speed might have been a dangerous challenge, had they not fully utilized the massive economies of scale benefits. Their successful innovations as a newcomer included using the Barnes & Noble brand to carry out joint promotions with prominent companies such as America Online, The New York Times, Disney Online and CNN.

  15. QUESTION:
Do you think the US govt. should implement a program to stop pregnant women from entering the country?
US Birth Tourism becoming flourishing business

    By DEVIN DWYER | Apr 14, 2010

Millions of foreign tourists visit the United States every year, and a growing number return home with a brand new U.S. citizen in tow.

Thousands of legal immigrants, who do not permanently reside in the United States but give birth here, have given their children the gift of citizenship, which the U.S. grants to anyone born on its soil.

The number of U.S. births to non-resident mothers rose 53 percent between 2000 and 2006, according to the most recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics. Total births rose 5 percent in the same period.

Among the foreigners who have given birth here, including international travelers passing through and foreign students studying at U.S. universities, are "birth tourists," women who travel to the United States with the explicit purpose of obtaining citizenship for their child.

Catering to the women is a nascent industry of travel agencies and hotel chains seeking to profit from the business.

The Marmara Manhattan, a Turkish-owned luxury hotel on New York's City Upper East Side, markets birth tourism packages to expectant mothers abroad, luring more than a dozen pregnant guests and their families to the United States to give birth last year alone.

"What we offer is simply a one-bedroom suite accommodation for ,750, plus taxes, for a month, with airport transfer, baby cradle and a gift set for the mother," Marmara Hotel spokeswoman Alexandra Ballantine said.

The hotel estimates the total cost of the package at ,000.

Most women stay for two months, Ballantine said, and they make medical arrangements on their own. "Guests arrange and pay for these by themselves," she said of hospital costs that can approach ,000.

For those with the means to pay, it's a small price to give a child the full benefits of U.S. citizenship, including the ability to travel freely to and from the United States, easy access to a U.S. education and a chance to start a life here.

"We found a company on the Internet and decided to go to Austin [Texas] for our child's birth," Turkish mother Selin Burcuoglu told Istanbul's Hurriyet Daily News. "I don't want [my daughter] to deal with visa issues. American citizenship has so many advantages."

The greatest of those advantages may be the ability of the citizen child to later sponsor the legal immigration of his or her entire family permanently to this country, experts say.

    • ANSWER:
No, because that would be almost impossible to enforce. what are we going to do, have officers give pregancy tests to incoming women who appear to be pregnant? Otherwise, how do you really know, unless they're in a stage of advanced pregnancy? It would be better to change the citizenship rules if anyone can get enough support to put together a constitutional amendment.

  19. QUESTION:
ASAP !!! please help me with my question?
Laura Etheridge and Rita O’Donnell, the CEO and Creative Director of Clean Clothes (a Texas based lesbian women’s clothing line) brainstormed together and came up with a tagline for their new slacks line: “Masculine Attitude, Feminine Fit.” They market the product on YouTube, Twitter, and Face Book showcasing their “Funky Femme” slacks collection, made from a material which resembles alpaca wool, but is actually organic cotton. To further the advertising impact, the team uses an Ellen DeGeneres look-alike in the YouTube video, where the model does the “Ellen dance” – and mouths “love the pants” as she points to her legs and then walks off leading an Alpaca by a halter. Within months, the slacks are a huge hit in the lesbian community. Clean Clothes sends a letter to their attorney asking him to trademark their tagline, and move forward without another thought about it.
Meanwhile, Men2Wimmin, a French company with a branch in New York, has established a huge following in the gay and cross-dressing community. It has used the tagline “Feminine Attitude, Masculine Fit” for many years to advertise their drag queen dress collection for men on billboards, the internet and television.
Ellen DeGeneres learns that her likeness is being used to advertise for Clean Clothes. She watches the ad and is incensed. She spends the next week on her show bashing the Clean Clothes company, and states that she would never endorse the use of Alpaca wool for clothing, as she feels shearing them is cruel. (She doesn’t catch that the pants are really made from cotton.) Further, she says she feels that lesbian women should not need to shop at special stores, although she admits she often shops in the men’s department at Joseph A. Bank (JOSB). Her comments cause a precipitous drop in sales at both Joseph A. Bank (JOSB) and Clean Clothes.

    Question
It is discovered that two weeks before the Ellen show, her partner had sold million in JOSB stock (at a gain of about ,200) and had also authorized a purchase of “put options” on JOSB the morning after Ellen’s show, on which she made another 0,000 in the next week. The swing in the price was not 100% directly tied to Ellen’s comments and Ellen’s partner’s previous trading activity shows that she made it a normal practice to “vigorously trade” the stock of any company with which Ellen did business. A review of her trading activity for the past year showed that she had bought and sold JOSB stock 25 different times, including both call and put orders, as well as some short sales. Do you think the SEC will file anything against Ellen or her partner for these sales of JOSB? Is there any cause to do so? Analyze the transactions with respect to insider trading activity (based on what you know) – and whether Ellen or her partner should be concerned. Is the prior trading activity a defense? Analyze and explain fully

    Question:
PersonsRPersons, a pop magazine, watches the YouTube video and immediately publishes an article about how shocked they are that Ellen DeGeneres would condone the use of animals for advertising or clothing creation. The article states, “It is obvious that this advertisement shows that Ellen has disbanded her adherence to a clean life; we wonder if drug use and alcoholism will soon follow.” A group of Alpaca Farmers, a member of a co-op, who are already struggling with high grain prices and lackluster wool sales since Climate Change, is outraged and sues both Ellen and PersonsRPersons for product disparagement. The Co-op requests assistance from the USDA in providing them with support for their shearing practices – and PETA immediately prints a picture of an Alpaca standing miserably in a headgate, being sheared. Analyze the Alpaca Farmer’s Co-Op’s product disparagement case against Ellen, PersonsRPersons, and PETA. Include defenses for all three. Explain what damages are required to be shown and what difficulties the Alpaca Farmers will have in proving them in this case.

  21. QUESTION:
Ann Coulter says - The Manchurian Teleprompter is Upbeat about GM's Dinky Cars! What do you think?
Don't Fall for the "Obama Motors" Lube Job

    Ann Coulter

Now that Barack Obama has gotten GM Chairman Rick Wagoner out of the way, he is confident that GM is on the way to unimaginable success. The government has given GM and Chrysler .1 billion in bailout money, which is only appropriate.

I mean, "millions" is so 90's...

To promote the sales of GM vehicles, Obama says it will be the government that will now stand by your GM car warranty. And the taxpayers all get a lube job. Your future GM owner's manual will come with a disclaimer: "Close enough for government work."

I don't know why everyone is so upset about the government taking over a major American car company. They've done a great job with social security. I mean, haven't they? Taking over GM and Chrysler is American as baseball, apple pie and Mussolini.

But the Manchurian Teleprompter IS "UPBEAT ABOUT GM'S FUTURE" as a recent New York Times headline declared.

As soon as I read the headline, I rushed to the financial pages. There I learned GM had just been kicked off the Dow Jones Industrial Index. Yikes! Picture the New York Yankees playing so badly they were demoted to Little League status.

That doesn't sound so good. Also, I discovered GM's share price was listed as N/A. Not applicable. Sounds to me like -- "price so low it can't be measured."

Ah, but the Times says Team Obama has a plan. GM's new chairman, Barack Obama, has demanded that GM focus on more green technology. Another nice feature is that instead of an airbag, your GM car will come with a Joe Biden. Thank you, and drive safely...

So the plan is: The "New GM" is going to persuade presumably sane Americans that a bankrupt Detroit automaker run by union hacks and government bureaucrats will make little, dinky, green cars better and cheaper than Toyota, Nissan, and KIA already make little, dinky, green cars.

    Believe that?

I have a better idea. Be really smart and follow the investing advice of someone who actually understands that America is a free-enterprise democracy... and knows how to protect your money while Team Obama tries to dismantle the greatest economic powerhouse in world history.

I refer to Mark Skousen, Ph.D., a man who for 29 years has helped subscribers to his Forecasts & Strategies newsletter build wealth -- through the crash of 1987, the boom years of the 1990s, the bursting of the Internet "bubble" in 2000, and the Crash of 2008. Dr. Skousen has seen it all, done it all, and witnessed what happened when a previous U.S. president tried his best to kill capitalism and wreck the country.

Back then the "Dismantler-in-Chief" was Jimmy Carter. In the 1970s, "Smilin' Jimmy" complained about our "inordinate fear of communism" -- and carried his own suit bag to show what a regular guy he was. He also gave us economic stagnation, hyperinflation, stock-market disintegration, and the contempt of the Soviet Union, Iran, and every other democracy-hating dictatorship on earth.

Obama makes Carter look like Ronald Reagan. He's apologized for America to so many countries that the only ones left on the remorse-tour are Cuba and North Korea. (Wait for it!) Obama is spending so much, so fast, that the inflationary havoc he'll cause is going to make the Carter years look like a golden age. "Malaise" will be an improvement over what's coming.

But not necessarily to you. Not when you have Dr. Mark Skousen advising you about what's going to happen to your money before it happens... and how to make certain your money is perfectly positioned to take advantage... or just escape the chaos.

Mark Skousen has helped his legions of investors build wealth through booms and busts, bubbles, and bubble-headed leadership. The latter is what we're being forced to endure now. As always, many will suffer tremendously. Others will prosper. The good news: You can choose to be one of the winners.

Make the right choice. Choose the proven, expert guidance of Dr. Mark Skousen. He's the Ph.D. for capitalists. Choose Forecasts & Strategies.

  23. QUESTION:
From the actions described in the article below that drug companies take, what can you deduce?
about the market structure? Is it a perfectly-competitive market? Why or why not?

    Article
Drug makers still pour hundreds of millions of dollars into slick TV ads each year, but the latest strategy for advertising new drugs is distinctly low tech: coupons.Pharmaceutical companies are offering free one-week or even one-month supplies of drugs to treat everything from diabetes to acid reflux. They hope to get patients to persuade their doctors to prescribe a new therapy or let them switch from an old drug. The drug makers are sending the coupons through the mail and in e-mails, and printing them in newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Health magazine. Many also can be found on the Internet at sites such as Viagra.com, Clarinex.com and Purplepill.com.

    • ANSWER:
The market is monopolistically competitive. If the market were perfectly competitive the drug companies could sell as many prescriptions as they wanted at the market price. Also, even by lowering their price no company can attract all of another company's customers, which is what would happen in a perfectly competitive market.

what do you people think could it be real or not?
i found a guy in cragislist for a talent model ageny i meet up with him he was cool show me his LIS Number: made me take new photos and pay 0 and now i call to see have every thing is work and he talk to me rude what do u thing>>>> here is the add he had.......

I owned and operated Models Exchange Model and Talent Agency from 1982 to 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale. After 25 years, I decided to close the agency because the field became saturated with bogus internet modeling websites that only confused new talent and usually charged monthly fees to join.
During my operating years, I worked on tens of thousands of movies, tv shows, tv commercials, print ads, music videos, and much, much more. During this time, not only did I fill castings for local work through casting directors and production companies, I also made very strong contacts in the Los Angeles and Hollywood market.
My contacts on the west coast can make things happen for those that have a strong desire to get ahead in this field and have a certain look or talent. These opportunities DO NOT exist in the south Florida market.
I am seeking children, teens, or adults that have a desire, and/or a certain look, and/or a unique talent, and/or acting ability that want to really have an opportunity to make a name for themselves. Must be able to fly to California when certain opportunities arise. If you feel you or your child has what it takes, get back to me. I will represent those that meet the requirements and give you all the individual attention needed. The jobs could be shot in LA, Miami, or New York.
Currently, we are seeking talent for a pilot for a new tv show, a national sports brand commercial, and several small speaking parts for a major movie soon to be casted.

  25. QUESTION:
    Fire safety cigarettes are poison?
I've been smoking 30 years. I live in Arizona where we just started getting Fire Safety Cigarettes.
For three weeks I was constantly getting ill, and having never heard of fire safe cigs, had no idea why. I immediately noticed my cigs (Marlboro reds) kept going out, not in a few minutes, more like every 30 seconds, Very annoying.
My dad a 50 year smoker called me one day to say his cigarettes, (Marlboro Light 100's), kept going out, and tasted awful. So I e-mailed Phillip Morris asking "What's going on"?. I googled, 'Marlboros keep burning themselves out'. I was appalled at what I saw. Web sites, blogs, and forums abounded with smokers complaining about getting sick from smoking these FSC cigarettes.
I couldn't believe our government would force a product on its citizens that were making smokers across the country sick. Didn't anyone bother too do some research on the health impact of these new 'safer' (not) cigarettes?
I immediately went to my vendor, and after searching there inventory found and bought five cartons of regular not FSC cigarettes, (labeled above the bar code). Within two days of smoking regular Marlboro's my illnesses subsided, and after a week I felt like my old self again.
Now I will have to start buying them online from companies in North Carolina, a state that still offers regular cigarettes that don't make me sick. After that I will buy them from Russia if I have too, or search out a black market, as I'm sure they will be popping up real soon.
Fire prevention agencies claim it will save 700 to 1,000 lives per year. New York Department of State did a study in New York State, a state which has mandated FSC for four years now, and found that deaths did drop from 31 deaths to 22 deaths in 2004.
Harvard School of medicine said that five compounds in the FSC cigarettes had increased in toxicity, but there was no evidence that these increases affect the already toxic nature of cigarette smoke.
OH REALLY, then why am I finding smokers all over the internet complaining they're getting sick? , I know they made me sick.
Those entities that are pushing this garbage on us didn't even have the courtesy to tell us smokers what they were doing.
These 'speed bump rings' that are incorporated into the paper, has increased amounts of a glue produced by DuPont used to adhere carpet, and is very toxic, (Adhesive ethylene vinyl acetate).
First our government unjustly targets smokers with a huge tax burden of 500% the past ten to fifteen years, now there going to poison us.
Did I mention the taste? These RSC taste terrible, another factor I’m reading from smokers across the country online. The amber or (cherry) at the end of the cigarette doesn't burn the same and allows too much air to mix with the smoke, and you can't get enough taste. So you end up drawing on them repeatedly trying to get a good full drag. You end up with uneven burning and ambers falling all over the place. Seems to me this is going to cause 'More Fire Hazard'. Also the constant relighting causes the paper to ignite into a real flame, and has even blown up in my face, and I only smoked a few packs of them.
New York States 2004 study claims nine lives were saved. Nation wide that would be 450 lives per year, less than the number of people a 'month' who die from tripping and falling down. But it's okay to make thousands of smokers’ nationwide sick. How many smokers a year will die now from the higher toxicity in the paper, only time will tell…
If we allow these non smoking advocates to 'dictate' what we consume, were will it end?
There's still as many non smokers dying each year of lung cancer and heart disease as smokers, considering the high levels of pollution in our cities nationwide. Maybe next they'll blame smokers for that too.

    • ANSWER:
I'm sorry, but I ill have to agree with Harvard that there is no proven effect that it's more harmful than the other chemicals in it. Yes it may make it taste different, but that is just one of the side effects of it.

As to why there are hundereds of sick smokers complaining online, it is well proven medical fact, as well as both common knowledge and common sense, that smoking is bad for you. It can cause so many conditions I couldn't list them all here.

However, unless we have more information about what you mean by being "ill" I'm afraid we can't really give a proper diagnosis.

  27. QUESTION:
We added 411,000 Census jobs in May. Is this a sign of economic recovery?
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/05/business/economy/05jobs.html?th&emc=th (I apologize for citing an unreliable source, the soon to be bankrupt, New York Times)

It turns out that almost all of the jobs "created" in May were temporary government jobs in the Census department. Does anybody really believe that adding a bunch of Census workers to try to catch all of the Tea Party activists who refused to fill out their Census form is a way to "stimulate" economic growth?

Yesterday, the stock markets responded to this evidence that Our Glorious Leader's "stimulus" programs are working by dropping below 10,000. I guess this must be because the Tea Party's online media dared to expose this fact that almost all of the jobs "created" are Census jobs. Don't worry though, as the FTC is looking to crack down on that soon. The Washington Times reported ( http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jun/4/ftc-floats-drudge-tax/ ) that the FTC is looking into a tax on those subversive Internet websites that constantly undermine the agenda of our Dear Leader in order to bailout media outlets that are reliably supportive of our Glorious President and his Party of Great Idealists and Humanitarians. Apparently, the FTC wants to help journalism "reinvent" itself Maybe if those Tea Party "subversives" hadn't been able to undermine the Census, the government could have added 411,000 permanent new bureaucrats to the IRS to help enforce the new health insurance mandate (because we have to stick it to those evil insurance companies by increasing their profit margins).

  28. QUESTION:
Can Future History Be Informed in Any Way by Past History re Wall Street Banks?
Is there anything we should learn from the Banking Crisis in NYC?
I'll offer three possibilities very briefly, and would appreciate your comments on those, and all your other respectful, germaine, serious comments.

#1 Big Banks are a bad idea

This seems to me unlikely to be what we should learn. If the rest of the world had Big Banks, and we had none, it would put USA at a serious disadvantage in world markets.

#2 Laissez-Faire Capitalism applied to Big Banks is a bad idea.

This seems plausible as a possible lesson we might learn. I'm talking here about the Capitalism wanted by Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, Phil Gramm, Milton Friedman, CATO Institute, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Ayn Rand, and the Deregulatory Zealots. We might decide that for big banks there's no capitalism like regulated capitalism, and there really should be regulators, and they really should do their jobs, not just watch porn on the internet (like SEC regulators did).

#3 Government of Laws and not of Men needs to be Moderated to a Degree for Big Banks.

We already have begun to explore what "Government of Men" would be like in the person of Ken Feinberg who did a creditable job on the compensation of the 9/11 victims, and on employee compensation at the Big Banks, and most recently on the Gulf Oil spill victims. When Ken gets commissioned by the AG he has unfettered discretion and can't be fired by the AG or anyone else. It's absolute power. It's the government of men (and not of laws).

This approach may be what's needed on Wall Street and throughout the financial industry. The big banks and mortgage companies take every new law, assign 1000 teams of lawyers to it, broken down by sections, and within 6 to 8 weeks they find 10,000 ways to completely avoid, circumvent, and engineer around the law so it has absolutely no impact on them apart from minor shifts in their business model.

The way this could stop is if the USA had some sort of Star Chamber Magistrate in charge of monitoring what goes on in the financial industry and issuing injunctions to put an instant stop to sleazy, smarmy, rotten, unacceptable conduct as soon as it appears. These injunctions would not be based on violations of law, they would be based on the unfettered discretion of the Star Chamber Magistrate. Whatever he/she says all players in the industry have to do, or be closed down, by the full force of the US government. Rule of men sometimes works when rule of law fails. Lincoln knew this. He knew that he had to declare Martial Law and he had to be the source of injunctions that could not be disobeyed. We may need something like Martial law to control Wall Street, Payday Lenders, and the Mortgage industry. 2000 page bills out of Congress are extremely unlikely to have any impact whatsoever. Washington writes 2000 pages, New York assigns 1000 lawyers, every lawyer gets 2 pages, and comes up with 200 ways to work around the law, in about 12 weeks, so the Big Doorstop mostly just gives sore backs to Law Library employees -- it has no actual effect on the financial industry, or on the Evil-Doers therein (except for Skilling, who now says he should get out of jail, and Lloyd Blankfein who walks down Park Avenue giving everybody raspberries and bronx cheers and yelling -- Look, I'm not in jail!).

In ancient Egypt, a very conservative culture, if three of the Great pyramids at Giza suddenly fell over and crushed a few hundred thousand people, somebody in the Phahrao's office would probabaly have asked, "Are we doing anything wrong, should we consider making some changes in how we do business?" I'm just asking ---- How about us --- is there anything we should learn from our Economic Collapse on Wall Street?
    To Caudex:

You make excellent points. My question was very carefully written. It calls for thoughts about what we might do going forward. It is not in any way related to the Bailouts, which seem to be the topic of your answer.

I welcome all intelligent remarks. Caudex has made some intelligent remarks, so I'm not griping.

But why not, you bright folks, like Caudex, take a few seconds to read my question, and then answer it in its own terms.

The question contain three possibilities. The third one is the most radical and the most serious. Took a lot of work to figure it out. Why not at least comment on that, instead of just posting the macro you have stored on the bailouts, which I approve of, and have no problem with, so they are not the topic of my question.

But on that subject, how in heck could AIG's stock be worth per share instead of zero when it owes 0 Billion to the US taxpayers? What are its assets? Is Wall Street completely crazy? Who audits AIG?

    • ANSWER:
The problem is one of human nature: when all is going well, why worry about what might go wrong? On a more sympathetic note, it is very difficult to justify making economic changes that are detrimental in the short term when you don't know exactly when the expected crash will come. If changes are implemented, people don't see any positives from them, because they don't see the crash that has been avoided. This then leads to people wanting the changes made to be undone - when there is no risk of things going wrong, why keep measures in place against them when by removing them you could make a quick buck?

Put it this way: 10 years ago, would you have suggested that the banks would be more careful when their risks were making western economies enormous gains? The only time you can say yes is when you KNOW that a global recession would come in the relative short term. Even with that knowledge, you might decide to wait five or six years before changing anything to get the extra financial benefit. Humanity is driven by greed, whether you like it or not, which is why we will always be at risk of massive economic recession - without risk, we can't gain that extra bit of cash in the good years. 15 years of gain followed by 5 of massive hardship is, it would seem, preferable to 20 years of stability without chance of genuine wealth.

  29. QUESTION:

Very impressive. Now here is what the employer wants to see. What kind of results did all these positions produce?
for example...."•Organizing graduate students’ official files and documents " - Did you just do filing or did you improve the filing system in any way that made this task more efficient for those you and others who will perform this task?
Another example "•Ranked highly among the team for excellent service and strong sales." Where did you rank and how much did you improve the sales numbers???
Employers want to see success, improvements and results. You have a good base, you just need to add a bit. Good luck.

    HELP

    • ANSWER:
I saw that on the TV this morning. If you go to one of those channels a black line should come across the screen, providing you with two phone numbers. Have your parents call either one of those numbers and see what happens, when my grandmother called they were busy. If the number is busy call your cable provider to see if your area is affected. We called Comcast and they said my household won't be affected.

    • ANSWER:
For one thing, they don't have nearly enough money -- you don't seem to understand how much is required for a "bailout". And their wealth is not in the form of cash. Bill Gates doesn't have billion in cash sitting around, it's billion in Microsoft stock, which cannot be used to help anything. And if there is a market panic and stock market crash, those billionaires will be a lot less rich because their stocks will have declined.

The proposed bailout involves using 0 billion in CASH to buy distressed loans. All the billionaires on your list put together most certainly do not have a total of anywhere near 0 billion in cash sitting around, probably not 1% of that. And if they sold their assets to raise as much cash as possible, that in itself would cause the market crash they're trying to prevent.

Internet Marketing Company Orange County

Are you in the middle of deciding where to go with an Internet marketing consultant or not? This is not an easy decision as you have to consider many different factors such as your budget, the consultant's experience, the consultant's expertise, previous client feedback, and more.

In reality, a consultant can really help your business in many ways. It's just a matter of picking the right consultant for the job. Here are some things a consultant can do for you.

A Consultant Can Steer You in the Right Direction

One of the biggest challenges for business owners is deciding on what strategies to use in order to grow their businesses. This is increasingly difficult with so many different aspects of Internet marketing such as blogging, Web 2.0, social marketing, search engine optimization, article marketing, and more.

However, by working with an Internet marketing consultant, you can get information on what will work for your particular business. Every business is different and a specific strategy may work better in one business compared to another.

To give you an example, a furniture store may actually want to start by using local search engine results in order to drive potential customers to their business. While starting SEO may be helpful, the profits gained from a less competitive strategy - such as local search marketing - can help the business get the much-needed profits and cash flow.

A Consultant Can Maximize Your Profits

If you're already getting some results from your Internet marketing, a consultant can help get more out of the strategy that you are using. A consultant may have the insight, small details, and know-how to turn a small winner into a bigger one.

In the case of SEO, one of your pages may be ranked 7th in the listings. However, if the consultant has expertise in SEO, he may be able to tweak certain aspects of your page like the title, keyword density, keyword prominence, and internal linking in order to improve your ranking. He can also help you adjust the meta description so that you not only get a higher ranking in the search results, but you also get more click-throughs without sacrificing your position.

A Consultant Allows You to Spend Your Time More Wisely

Many business owners simply don't have the time to keep up with all the latest changes and strategies in Internet marketing. Trying to learn the strategies and putting them into action is another big challenge.

By hiring an Internet marketing consultant, you can get all the information you need about a particular strategy for your business, saving you precious research time. Plus, if you decide to hire the consultant for your project, you can spend your time growing your business rather than on the strategy.

These are three of the ways that a consultant can help you grow your business. There are many more benefits of using a consultant, but these are some of the most important. Don't be afraid of seeking the help you need. Look at the consultant's experiences, specialty, past client feedback, and portfolio to decide if he or she is the right fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of a good internet marketing company is Orange County?
I own a small business in Seal Beach, California and I want to hire a company to handle my Internet and online marketing. Can anyone recommend a decently priced company in or around Orange County? I don't have a large budget, so I do not want one of these companies that charges hundreds of dollars just to talk.

    • ANSWER:
I have used http://www.ClickThisMarketing.com to handle my internet marketing for the past few months with great results. They are specifically geared towards small businesses in orange county, so I think it'll be right up your alley!

  2. QUESTION:
Who is the best internet marketing company in orange county ca.?

    • ANSWER:
I don't know, but I think it's important to know that the best (most effective) internet marketing company serving customers in Orange County, CA is probably not located in Orange County. There is fundamentally no advantage to being "local" for 98% of internet advertising activity, even when promoting a "local" company only within a small geographic area.

I assume that you're seeking to hire an internet marketing company, and perhaps you've chosen to limit your search to Orange County because you want to meet someone face-to-face, or perhaps you just realize that there are many thousands of companies so you figured you should "buy local."

I understand that attitude, but you should first identify your specific goals and then try to determine which company can best meet your needs. There are many different "types" of internet marketing companies, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Many companies are really just one person, or a few people, with their own unique attitudes and skills.

What industry is your company in? Are you seeking to sell products, or services? What kind of products? To what audience? Will you actually sell online? Can you track and analyze performance internally? What are your goals (immediate sales, customer leads, branding)?

      Good luck.

  3. QUESTION:
Does anyone have a link to a good online marketing site or free internet marketing workshops?
I have a small business and I'm trying to generate more traffic to my website. The thing is, there is so much information online it's hard to filter through it. If someone has had success with an online marketing site or company, shoot me a link. Or even internet marketing workshops or classes in the orange county, california area that you've attended. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Try Technology Brokers Association. I just went to one of their free workshops and let me tell you - they are very imformative. Crisantos Hajibrahim, the workshop instructor can give you a lot of insight on how to market your business online. Here's an excerpt from their site:

      "Crisantos will teach you:

-how Google AdWords works and little known secrets to get the most out of your Pay Per Click budget
      - Google Analytics, the eyes and ears of your website without which you can’t hope to succeed with your Internet strategy
      - how Google's Webmaster tools are essential for Google Search success
      - the power of Video and YouTube marketing
      - the truth about traditional SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques and cheaper yet more effective alternatives for small businesses;
      - online Drip Marketing, tracking Craigslists, and so much more... "

I don't know anything about website maintenance so i'm having them install Google Analytics for me on my site. They're also helping me with a marketing plan tailored for my business.

Workshops are held twice a week in Huntington Beach, CA.

Here's their website address where you can register online www.technologybrokers.org

  2. QUESTION:
Can you please offer some constructive advice?
    Hi there, folks.

I am seeking new work (as I am sure many of us are). I have had my B.A. for about a year, obtained from UCI with my major in English. This year my employment has been strictly contract jobs, writing and working with an overseas company in their marketing and advertising department. I am just now starting to dabble in some online writing of my own. You can find me on examiner.com these days, its a fun endeavor.

I wanted to see if anyone can point me in the direction of new work related to writing? I am considering trying to get myself set up with a position at UCI, however I'd like to use my writing skills to move forward. I have some learning to do with simple tools such as excel. However my grasp of English is quite solid and I think somewhere out there somebody could use my services. I am also fluent in Farsi and possess beginner's German speaking skills.

I need to make decent income, though. In other words, if I were to take on a salary, it'd have to be somewhere around ,000 a year.

Where shall I look and what skills might you recommend I pick up?

I even would love to hear random suggestions! I won't turn away from the idea of a physician assistant if you can suggest how I go about getting there, although I would love to stick with writing. I am also great at finding answers and performing internet research.

    Thanks guys!

    • ANSWER:
Hi Laleh, Two thoughts. One, k is pretty ambitious -- especially for a writer. But not impossible! Two, knowing how to write for the web is pretty valuable these days. If you can write so that people understand you, internal search engines properly prioritize your content AND external search engines rank it highly, you're in control of your future! If you are on top of your writing skills, brush up on SEO and modern PR. Good luck!

  3. QUESTION:
Is Microsoft's bid for Yahoo! a wise one?
Microsoft has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo with an unsolicited takeover offer of .6 billion in its boldest bid yet to challenge Google's dominance of the lucrative online search and advertising markets.

With its profits steadily sliding, Yahoo's stock slipped to a four-year low earlier this week and a new management team has been trying to steer a turnaround but sees more turbulence through 2008.

Wouldn't it have been smarter for Microsoft to expand into these markets rather than buying a faltering company for far more than it's worth?

    http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/tech/20080201-0938-microsoft-yahoo.html
    expand into these markets themselves*
§eeker I doubt Yahoo!'s products will decline if Microsoft intend to compete with Google. Yahoo!'s on the ropes, the fact that their management predicts a hard 2008 is proof of that. Yahoo! might be a good concept, but it definitely isn't fulfilling it's potential. Mircrosoft, if any, will pull on the short end if this deal doesn't work.

    • ANSWER:
gee i hope the good people at Y!'s top are reading what their people (this) have to say about this proposed takeover....IT IS A BAD IDEA.....and this is why:
first off MS is OS/browser crazed. they will do anything in time to make "the new yahoo" more functional by using their browser and OS ONLY and then google wins anyway.
MS is not an altruistic company. there is so much new cool stuff that needs to be invented and little cool things that other smaller portals have achieved. yahoo is behaving like there is no new innovation. i mean it sounds like yahoo is giving up. to this end i would serve a plea to its stockholders by saying, "we should hang in there" little longer.
such is the problem of going public. stay private for the long haul but yahoo can't do that because it is already public.

rather i see yahoo combining its forces with small innovative portals and build a better for pay Mail Plus. i am a paying customer and i love all the features.

remembers the early daz of ureach.com. they had that facility to directly upload data and make it available to the public or limited access. i thought that was very cool. in fact ureach offers some really nice services now that would work well will yahoo.

then how about a browser based OS. there is so much to be accomplished there as well. perhaps a piece of yahoo can get it together with Canonical and embrace Ubuntu? so maybe Yahoo can be a GM of portals and take under its wing some innovations.

to yahoo people i say if you just want to sell out then just do it. but if you still interested in Yahoo then i say for everyone to go to the beach this weekend and have a picnic and take deep breath......see what happens monday.

  4. QUESTION:
A question about my social media paper?
My professors say my Intros and Conclusions are WEAK
and I always get a 95% on my essays :(

Can somebody read these and tell me if they are weak?

    Intro:
The rising popularity of social networking sites are rivaling for consumption and putting strain on the business aspects of companies in the television and print industry. Internet usage is now cutting into the expenditures of traditional media, such as television and print. With young people spending increased amounts of time online, social networking sites are on the rise and are offering new outlets to marketers. Advertisers now attempt to market their television shows, movies, and print ads effectively through social media sites, such as Facebook and MySpace, in hopes of reaching younger audiences and as a result, have been successful.

    Conclusion:
In conclusion, the facts have been presented to clarify the effective movement from traditional media to social media. Social networking sites have opened new doors for advertising in hopes of reaching the younger audience. As a result, they have gained the attention of the older audience. The once popular 20th century inventions are integrating into the Internet and the advertisers who are smart enough will keep following in order to make revenue. The weight of ad money has been slipping off the ship of traditional media and going to the web. Conventional marketers stuck in 20th century marketing standards would be lucky to even find a life boat.

  5. QUESTION:
Describe several B2B technologies and applications?
    Scenario:

Your brother owns a gourmet food company named Grandma's Treats, and he is faced with an interesting decision. He inherited your grandmother's recipe box and adapted the recipes to accommodate his wife's diabetes. You, your friends, and relatives couldn't tell that his creations were low sugar, and word of his delicious baked goods spread throughout the community. Last year, he left his full-time job to produce and sell his creations to the public, caterers, and restaurants. Recently, one of his restaurant chain clients approached him to supply all of their locations. They also suggested that he could attract more customers and operate his business more effectively if he creates a website, advertises, and sells his "treats" on the World Wide Web. You have more business experience than your brother does, so you've offered to help him investigate this opportunity. Starting an e-business, or expanding a current business into the Internet, involves as much planning and risk
as starting or expanding a traditional business. Some of the things that you have to consider include:

    The cost of the technology.
    The design of the website.
The marketing strategies you will use.
The choices of what to sell and how to sell it over the Internet.
The advantages of online communication with customers and suppliers.
The risks of doing business on the Internet.
You start exploring alternatives and seek the advice of experienced e-business professionals. There is a lot to learn, and you have heard many stories about people who have started e-businesses (or traditional businesses) and end up failing because they did not have or follow a solid plan.
You will strive to understand some of the basic principles of e-business in addition to understanding traditional business strategies so you can make wise choices as you bring your brother's business into the Information Age. The varieties of tasks you will pursue are the development of an e-commerce plan, the exploration of different technologies that are used competitively in e-business, Internet marketing strategies, security, and ethics.

    QUESTION:
Describe several B2B technologies and applications, as well as describe several applications or ways B2C can use technology that Grandma's Treats could utilize as part of an e-business strategy. Search the Cybrary and provide at least two research citations that illustrate examples of companies that are utilizing e-business strategies (e.g., B2B, B2C), and discuss how Grandma's Treats could benefit from employing similar strategies.

  6. QUESTION:
Question over Big Brother is Watching Everyone.?
It a question in my homework. Here is the article you need to read first and the question is below,

    Privacy eroding, bit by byte

Computers, Engineers Find New Ways to Keep Tabs On Us

First there were security cameras, sprouting like mushrooms on street corners and buildings. Then came shopper cards, offering discounts in exchange for details about buying habits.

In recent years, we've seen the emergence of electronic tags or "cookies" on the Internet, software that monitors e-mail, GPS devices that pinpoint our position on the planet, and a growing number of machines that capture fingerprints and face prints.

Now comes the news that federal regulators approved the injection of microchips under the skin, enabling physicians with the right gear to know who someone is without having to ask. And yesterday, the omniscient-seeming search engine Google bested itself by announcing a service to probe for information both online and in your own machine. One company official called it a "photographic memory for your computer."

Google says no personal information will be sent back to the company. But if it feels like you can't do anything these days without someone looking over your shoulder, you're not just paranoid. Cheap computers, blazing fast networks and clever engineers are finding more and more ways to keep tabs on where you go and what you buy, generally with your permission. They're even getting better at guessing what you'll do next.

"It's this whole new world. It's sort of like all these little details about our lives are being recorded," said Richard M. Smith, an Internet security consultant in Boston. "We love the conveniences. We love the services. But people kind of instinctively know there's a dark side to this. They just hope it won't happen to them."

    Smaller, Faster and Cheaper

To be sure, companies have long gathered personal and shopping information to better market to customers, often with dubious results. Who hasn't received junk mail or telemarketing calls that seem to have no connection with their lives? But those initiatives are fast improving' and accelerating as people live more of their lives tethered to cell phones, the Internet and the rest of the wired world, where trading off personal information is part of the price of admission.

Think about a typical day. An advertising service is notified when you check the sports scores on the Web. The EZ-Pass transponder signals when you go through a tollbooth. The pharmacy collects personal medication details and sends them along to data companies for analysis. At work, some employees now use face recognition systems to get in to their offices, or they type on machines that trace every keystroke.

"Every move you make is becoming part of your permanent record," said Peter P. Swire, a privacy expert and law professor at Ohio State University. "The trend is smaller, faster, cheaper."

    Rapid Accumulation

There's no question the data are accumulating, and faster than many people understand. A few years ago, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley estimated that all the information created by humanity by 1999 would double by about now. One of the leading aggregators of personal information, an Arkansas company called Acxiom Corp., has roughly a million times more information about adult Americans and their families than when it first sold stock two decades ago.

Other commercial information services routinely tout their ability to access some 20 billion records. And that's not counting the digital details that come in the form of photographs, videotapes and sensor readings. Most people know companies can mine credit card data, loan records and other transactions. But few know that companies already offer video-mining services as well. One day we might be able to mine the information generated by radio frequency identification chip implanted in our arms. Or we might just use a Google search service custom-made for RFID, as the chips are known.

Not everybody is vexed by these trends. Homeland security, law enforcement and intelligence officials are rushing to take advantage of this wealth of information to protect the country. Web sites like Amazon.com, cell phone services, catalogue retailers, financial services companies and many others are increasingly adept at using data systems to serve customers. Ask people whether they'd give up those services, and many would offer a resounding "no."

David Brin, an author and futurist, believes that recent technological developments have revolutionized the ability of people to see, through cameras around the globe, and remember details through almost unimaginably rich warehouses of information that serve as proxies for our limited memories.

He predicts that we will one day be able to "know" almost everybody in the world through instant access to personal information in ubiquitous dat

    • ANSWER:
The whole concept of Big Brother is scary, and I dont even want to think of the whole "We are being watched" ethos as that kind of nightmare scenario is far too much to even imagine.

But the truth is we are being watched, talk about an unconsenting form of invasion of privacy :)

  7. QUESTION:
Im trying to start my own business...?
I would like to find some small businesses to offer my services for free... This is for me to practice some internet marketing skills that I wish to offer in the future... I would be able to make them more seen on a local level and also help develop a strategy for them to get positive reviews placed where people will read them and be more encouraged to visit their business.

I have already done this for a few friends and so far it seems to be going good. I would also like the opportunity to ask a few questions about their current marketing strategies.

    Things Like...

How long have you been in business at this location?
How many locations do you have?
What types of advertising do you do?
Do you ask your customers where they found you?
What % of customers are found online.
What is your monthly marketing budget?
What % of marketing is online?

Can anyone else help me think of some questions I might need to consider?

I would really like to find volunteers in different cities. I think this service would be great for restaurants, and independent agents like Realtors, insurance agents and travel agents. I don't want to lie to get people to let me try with their company and so far everyone has said no...

    Any suggestions?
You misunderstood. I would ask those questions to learn the industrys and how they currently ARE marketing. i think to really offer them something I need to know what they are doing already wouldnt you agree?

What I would do is make them more visible online. Thats it... and I would like to help me determine a fee using that information that they provided while answering those questions as not to charge something over the top and not to sell myself short.
I know there are a lot of business that can benefit from this. It is not SEO. Its using the map on the front page of google searches. There can only be 7 companies on that front page map. so its kinda prime real estate. Problem is noone gives me the time of day. They just say not interested. Im not a salesman...

Job offer through school email...too good to be true? or real?
I got this email, and a few others, in my school email address. I don't know whether it's real or not because things do exist like this...Like today in class we filled out a survey on an ad a company was going to run after researching how it affected people. (Although we did not get paid for that one, we just get extra credit for the class it was in)

Also, my roomie has been getting some emails too. We are both in the Recording Industry program which is part of Mass Communications so advertising IS an area close to our area.

Here's exactly what the email says...

    "Dear Kody,

If you want to become one of our survey takers, please write back and I will send you more information.

    Sincerely,
    Carla Baker "

I looked to see if "Carla Baker" went to MTSU (the school I go to) and she isn't in the system...Not that that means a lot..but still lol.

What's your opinion on it? Thanks for your answers!
    *UPDATE*
I posted this question a few minutes after I read the last email (the one I posted) and I still have no reply. I guess I'll wait a few days and see if they ever reply. If not I guess it is a scam. Although, like one answer said...it does take time so they would be willing to pay a little at least. lol. So who knows, thanks for answering though!
    *UPDATE #2*

Some girl was standing in the middle of a courtyard thing with a sign mentioning doing surveys, and was being recording. I think it was for the MTSU tv channel....But I still have not heard anything from the person who emailed me.

    • ANSWER:
These messages get sent out in large numbers to college students because they know that easy, short-term opportunities to make a little extra money in your spare time will appeal to you.

It's probably real, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it a job. I've taken a few market research surveys and they did pay, though not the huge hourly wages it sounds like, as these surveys do take time. By all means look into it if it's something you want to do; it's not a bad way to make some spare change. Just beware if they want you to buy anything up front; there are some "work-at-home" companies that do this, and I wouldn't trust them to get your investment back.

The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Does a telephone company have the right to sell a customer's name?
I moved into a new city. I signed up for a cable internet and a phone line package. The telephone company they told me they would not sell names to marketing companies. I didn't trust them so I told them to list my name as so and so (fake name) on the directory book. There is an option of not getting listed, but it cost money. Few months later I got mails with my fake name from Walmart, Sears, and other companies, including a DSL internet company.

    Can I take legal action?

    • ANSWER:
They didn't sell your name, they placed it in the book just as you asked. These companies get lists of all the phone books. The reason they charge for leaving your name out of the book is because then you are not listed. A sly way of selling your name without acually selling it.

    What is software marketing?
i am a MCA student and i have been offered a job of s/w marketing, not marketing over internet. the company name is hallmark global. so can any one please tell me what is s/w marketing and how it differs from regular marketing and the future in it. thnks alot.

    • ANSWER:
It could mean a couple of things, but it would seem these are the two most likely:

      1. Marketing Software to people; positioning, promoting, advertising specific software products to people (this seems the most likely to me)
      2. Placing marketing messages in software; ads inside videos games, that kind of thing
      3. Creating software that helps people market (this seems the least likely)

In any case, when offered a job (or on a job interview, whatever) make sure you have a good understanding of what the job description and day-to-day responsibilities. Legitimate employers should not look down on thoughtful, well researched questions.

      Good luck!

  13. QUESTION:
How do I manage separate Customers in Microsoft Project 2003?
I have Microsoft Project 2003, and own an Internet marketing company. I am struggling with how to manage where each Customer is currently at, task-wise at any given time period, like weekly or monthly. One customer may have been with us for a few months (therefore some specific tasks have already been completed), while a brand new customer is just starting specific new tasks. We have over 20 customers to date.

How in Project do I enter different Customers/Companies with specific tasks assigned to each one? ie. CompanyA, CompanyB, etc.

Ultimately, I'd like to view a weekly report showing each customer, and tasks that have been completed for each customer, and which tasks are still pending completion, to be completed that week.

I'm sure I don't Create a New Project for each company name, with tasks assigned, correct? Otherwise, it would be extremely tedious opening separate project files to view each customer's tasks and their standing each week.

    Please help...so confusing.

    • ANSWER:
      A couple of assumptions:
      1. Each customer would go through the same or very similar set of tasks
      2. You would prefer to work with one Microsoft Project schedule as opposed to multiple files (and a Master plan)

Here is what I would suggest.
      1. Create a summary task for each customer
      2. Under each summary task, insert the set of routine tasks
      3. Set up each customer as a Resource on the Resource Sheet
      4. Assign the proper customer to the corresponding set of tasks
      5. To see who should be working on what, you can use the Filter for and select the proper date range.

Be sure to maintain the % Complete column and keep dates in line with reality.

  15. QUESTION:
Where can I get databases with company names & addresses from?
I need to do a load of marketing (UK) and for this I will keep all companies I contact on a data base. Problem is, it takes forever to find details and write them in. Can I get ready made ones on the Internet (in excel form)? And are there free ones or will I have to pay?

Its for anything to do with construction and landscaping.

    • ANSWER:
Have a search for data sales companies, the ones that are registered with the DMA (Direct Marketing Association) are the ones that play by the rules, of which there are many. The DMA website has all the rules you'll need, I suggest reading them first and working out what you actually need. Then call a couple of the companies to get quotes and go for the best! Always get it tps/fps/mps or emps cross referenced (depending on what you're using it for) to cover your own back (this will make sense when you've read the DMA website).

There are people that will give away free data, but generally the rule is if it's free, there's a reason. Good quality data costs but it's worth the investment if you get multiple use of it.

When you speak to the sales people try to be as precise as possible with your requirements and ask for a sample of 20 records to check yourself and see what you're actually getting. Any good company will send you a sample with no problems.

What's some of the fastest ways to promote your company on the internet INSTANTLY?
So what's some of the fastest ways to promote your company on the internet? I can think of PPC so far being the best. SEO takes too long. Besides craigslist, myspace, email marketing, what's the fastest way that you can get your name out there instantly. Instance is the key.

    • ANSWER:
Viral marketing and word of mouth. You can do this by having something really interesting and unique to offer. Approach an influential blogger and let the person know about your site. Or issue a press release and alert media writers and editors about your release.

If you are offering something SPECIAL, word about the business will spread very fast. The key is to target the INFLUENCERS -- those who can spread the word for you fast.

One of the classic viral marketing example is Hotmail, which spread so fast because of the link at the bottom of its emails. The movie Snakes on a Plane spread so fast on the Internet too (too bad nobody cared enough to go watch it in the movies)

  22. QUESTION:
What sort of punishment does this man desirve?
Man described as a top spammer arrested

By GENE JOHNSON, AP Legal Affairs WriterThu May 31, 8:02 AM ET

A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail.

Robert Alan Soloway is accused of using networks of compromised "zombie" computers to send out millions upon millions of spam e-mails.

"He's one of the top 10 spammers in the world," said Tim Cranton, a Microsoft Corp. lawyer who is senior director of the company's Worldwide Internet Safety Programs. "He's a huge problem for our customers. This is a very good day."

A federal grand jury last week returned a 35-count indictment against Soloway charging him with mail fraud, wire fraud, e-mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.

Soloway pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon to all charges after a judge determined that — even with four bank accounts seized by the government — he was sufficiently well off to pay for his own lawyer.

He has been living in a ritzy apartment and drives an expensive Mercedes convertible, said prosecutor Kathryn Warma. Prosecutors are seeking to have him forfeit 3,000 they say he made from his business, Newport Internet Marketing Corp.

A public defender who represented him for Wednesday's hearing declined to comment.

Prosecutors say Soloway used computers infected with malicious code to send out millions of junk e-mails since 2003. The computers are called "zombies" because owners typically have no idea their machines have been infected.

He continued his activities even after Microsoft won a million civil judgment against him in 2005 and the operator of a small Internet service provider in Oklahoma won a million judgment, prosecutors said.

U.S. Attorney Jeff Sullivan said Wednesday that the case is the first in the country in which federal prosecutors have used identity theft statutes to prosecute a spammer for taking over someone else's Internet domain name. Soloway could face decades in prison, though prosecutors said they have not calculated what guideline sentencing range he might face.

The investigation began when the authorities began receiving hundreds of complaints about Soloway, who had been featured on a list of known spammers kept by The Spamhaus Project, an international anti-spam organization.

The Santa Barbara County, Calif., Department of Social Services said it was spending ,000 a week to fight the spam it was receiving, and other businesses and individuals complained of having their reputations damaged when it appeared spam was originating from their computers.

"This is not just a nuisance. This is way beyond a nuisance," Warma said.

Soloway used the networks of compromised computers to send out unsolicited bulk e-mails urging people to use his Internet marketing company to advertise their products, authorities said.

People who clicked on a link in the e-mail were directed to his Web site. There, Soloway advertised his ability to send out as many as 20 million e-mail advertisements over 15 days for 5, the indictment said.

The Spamhaus Project rejoiced at his arrest.

"Soloway has been a long-term nuisance on the Internet — both in terms of the spam he sent, and the people he duped to use his spam service," organizers wrote on Spamhaus.org.

Soloway remained in federal detention pending a hearing Monday.

What Internet Marketing Course Should I Take?
Hello, I have started a self-proclaimed business that currently specializes in Mobile Marketing, thanks to Mobile Monopoly by Adam Horwitz and I am about to start setting up some campaigns, but I have a problem. The company was originally meant to be a Mobile Marketing only company, but it is called Ellis Digital Marketing. It was called Ellis Mobile Marketing, but I changed it as I want to be bimarketarey(Made up word, sorry), or handling marketing in 2 different ways, so while Mobile Marketing will always be my specialty and primary focus, I also need to start an Online Sector of my business. I know of many courses(To name a few, Lee McIntyre and the Platinum Program, Philip Mansour and Confidential Conversions, Desmond Ong and Niche Funnel System) and I only want to use one system for my online business. At first I thought I could just run several businesses, and have each business utilize a different method taught by a different course, but that would take up too much time and analysis. So I want to only use one, and I want to hear from someone who has used the teaching of either: Lee McIntyre, Philip Mansour, Desmond Ong, or Adam Horwitz. Thank you.
Well have you used that method and had success?

  25. QUESTION:
How to register an internet domain and check whether it is not a company trademark?
    Hi,

I have this idea for a food website but have no clue how to register an online business. Secondly, how does one legally ensure the name is approved? Also, if the website name is a 'common phrase' expression that refers to a marketing label but there are no companies using that label, then is it still valid?

For a hypothetical example: If I were to call my website www.superfoods.com knowing there is a company Sunshinehealth.com selling super foods, would that be OK?

    thanks!

    • ANSWER:
You are wise to be concerned about this. Just because you can register a domain name does not mean that you will have the right to use it. As an example, let's say I could register Yahoo.biz. Just because I managed to register the name does not mean I could violate Yahoo's trademark and start up my own search engine under that name.

On the other hand if you registered Yahoo.biz and your company was selling hamburgers you could easily go forward and use the name since Yahoo's trademark likely does not cover hamburgers.

A trademark is registered for some products. In theory if the trademark owner does not register for their name under a product category it is available.

However you must also realize that large companies with lots of lawyers that have nothing better to do can take you to court over any trademark and unless you have the money you will go out of business.

So your best bet is to do a very careful trademark search on your proposed name, make sure it is not used for any purpose and then check to see if the domain name is available. Eventually you will come up with a combination of clear trademark and clear domain that works.

Once you find it make sure you purchase all the possible names like .com, .net, .org, .biz etc. This will prevent a competitor from setting up shop using your name somewhere down the line.

Don't think a trademark automatically protects you. Having a trademark just means you can go to court and sue someone over the name. You are responsible for defending your name and have to pay lawyers to do so. So preventing a squatter from grabbing the .biz version of your name, for example, is a much cheaper option than suing them later.

Starting a new company - exactly how much patience is reasonable ?
5 months ago I started my own (internet) company. Business takes off incredibly slow.

I am subscribed to just about any marketing newsletter, course, SEO courses, you name it, you can think of, and monitor all from dust till dawn.

how do you start up your own internet company and website?
hi everyone, what do i need in starting up a website?can you buy a domain name forever?i notice alot of people sell om domain names, what is there a demand for in the market?like to build a successful website and sell it on? any information greatly appreciated thanks
    thanks for the advice

    • ANSWER:
As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

To get further information take a look at:

      http://www.threehosts.com/build

You need a web hosting service which supports online payments like, Master Card, Visa & PayPal. It is very important that your service be uptime. It means that you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and your visitors can view your website whenever they type your website address. If your hosting service is not uptime it is real hell!

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

      Take a look at:

      http://www.threehosts.com/business

There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry. They fulfill all your requirements to sell online. By using each of them, everything you need for your business website is provided in one eCommerce Hosting Package.

This company has had 64 straight quarters of double-digit growth, and is partnered with google, amazon, and thousands of other big name companies. In short, people are making crazy money with this business....6 figures within 2-3 years of working 8 hours/week. At the very least it is a nice side income that comes in residually for the rest of your life, even after you have quit working. So basically, this isn't any kind of pyramid scheme or scam, or anything like that. I had to do research on it for a year before I finally bought into the business plan. 33. QUESTION:
Does this sound like a scam to you?
The other day I was in an electronic's store shopping for a CPU for a new system I'm building, and this guy beside me starts asking me a bunch of computer related questions. He introduces himself and gives me a business card with his company's name and his cell number. No address, no email addresses, no internet address for their website. I look up the business when I get home and can't find anything about it. The next day I get a call from someone who says he's with the company and that he wants to sit down at a Starbucks and talk about an opportunity to make supplemental income in Internet Marketing. The call was around 8PM at night, strange hours to be making a business call isn't it? Also, he wants to meet at the Starbucks by my house at 8PM tonight to discuss all this. Has anyone ever been involved in a situation like this? It sounds like a scam to me.

Since it's supposedly an internet marketing company I would think that they would at the very least have a URL for their business on their business card or something like that...

    • ANSWER:
Yes, it does sound very suspicious indeed. At the best, it's some kind of come-on to get you into a MLM scheme like so many that are floating around.

At the worst, it's a straight scam where they ask you to "invest" and make off with your money.

You would do best to avoid this thing entirely.

  36. QUESTION:
On internet, it's "affiliate marketing", what's it in real life?
Let's consider the scenario in which a banking company need to get many customers but at the same time, that bank doesn't recruit nobody at that time. In other hands, it allows people to bring many unique customers who make the buy and generate some commissions for the affiliate. I'd like to know if

    1) this kind of marketing does exist in real life?
    2) if so, what is his name? also affiliate marketing or other?

    thanks a lot

    • ANSWER:
Those are called referrals. Occasionally a company might use this type of advertising, but I hardly ever see it. I have seen clubs and restaurants do this on occasion. They will use a "street team" to hand out cards to people. The cards are usually for a free drink or free admission. When a person comes to the club or restaurant and hands in the card the person of the street team gets a referral fee for it.

When I lived in LA there was a company that paid people to hand out tickets to movie screenings. The people who attended the special pre-screenings got to watch the movie ahead of everyone else and may be asked to take a short survey about the movie. Those that handed out the tickets got paid for each ticket that was handed into the movie theater.

Though these programs are far and few between, an enterprising person could go to the owner or manager of a company and pitch the idea, If the owner or manager agrees to it then you would need to create postcards or flyers and start handing them out, putting them on windshields or placing them on door steps.

There would need to be a reason for people to take it to the store, restaurant, bank or wherever. For example, if it were a bank, people would bring in the flyer for a free piggy bank if they sign up for a checking account. The teller would keep the flyer and you would get paid a referral fee at the end of the month for all the flyers that were brought in.

I think many companies would go for this type of marketing and sales approach if they were given the opportunity, especially in this economy. After all, they don't have to pay someone unless they make a sale. It's a win/win situation.

Internet Marketing, SEO - Search Engine Optimization what questions would you have?
    Hello friends.

My name is Ivan from Toronto, Canada. I am a copywriter for a SEO company located in Montreal, Quebec.

Me and my colleagues have run into a little dilemma and I was wondering if you could assist us with your expertise.

We are a search engine optimization company, and are currently working of a FAQ section of our site and by our very nature tend to ask more technical, advanced questions and are afraid of overlooking the obvious. Since SEO is quite a niche practice, I was wondering if you could give us a hand and ask a couple of questions.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization, what would be the questions you would ask if you came across that phrase. For Example:

    - What is it?
    - Who does do?
    - and so on, anything that comes to your mind will be of great value to us.

We would greatly appreciate any questions on your part, no matter how small or big! Anything that can help us get that FAQ up there!
I will try to answer all of them. Thank you, hope to hear from you

  43. QUESTION:
A small company vs. normal tenant wants to rent my condo -- what do I need to know?
I have a 2 bed / 2 bath condo in Tempe AZ that we rent out -- in the past it has been a normal tenant lease but we now have a small Internet marketing firm that wants to rent it for their traveling "executives" -- one that will be there 75% of the time and the others will be traveling in and out of town...

What type of lease will we need to have (we will require that the lease be in the company owner's name vs their company) and what do we need to know?

I have added a 0 cleaning fee to the regular security deposit and will do a 6 month vs 12 month lease to see how it goes.... advice and suggestions from folks with experience in this area is MUCH appreciated -- this is a significant investment for me and while I don't want to jump at just anyone who is applying, we have had the unit vacant for 2 months now and I think if we know what we are getting into and handle this in a smart way it will be OK... thanks!

What type of company is this?
Hi. I am about to start my internet company. My company will buy websites that look like they need more work, fix them up (marketing, content, design, etc.) to hopefully create more profit from site revenue, and sell the sites for profit after six months.

I know people already do this. It is called website flipping.

But for my company, what do i say the company is? It is not a private equity firm because along with buying undervalued sites, we also create are own websites.

  46. QUESTION:
Why did Microsoft enter the Internet Market late?
Everything Involves the internet now, Movies, Cellular Phones, TV Automobiles, Schools, Colleges, Music, just to name a few, the Internet has changed the way we communicate; Microsoft has always been on the cutting edge of tecnology; Hod did a company no one had hardly heard of become so competive.

    • ANSWER:
Microsoft did not exactly enter the market late.

Microsoft has been involved with internet-related business from fairly early in the game, but were focused on owning the infrastructure: browsers, servers, e-commerce solutions, email, etc. When you take a look at many of the "big players" in the market, you will find that most of them are using at least one Microsoft product somewhere in their critical business path.

      Hope this helps!

  47. QUESTION:
where can I find if a logo/brand name for a clothing company has been registered/copyrighted.?
I am working on a starting a clothing company. I have the designs, the printing, the marketing, but I forgot to register/copyright my brands name. I researched to see if anyone else on the internet had it and indeed somebody uses the name. They look like a kid and their site has been down for months. Is there a way to register the brand name and to view if anyone has registered it yet?

    • ANSWER:
Go to www.uspto.gov and click on "trademarks" and then do a search for your brand name. If no one has registered it, or if they have registered it in another category than clothing, you can register it in your category.

If your name is fairly common (Joe's Designs, for example) you might have hundreds of similar names. You might want to search for a brand name that could be exclusively yours.

However, this will not completely protect you. If the "kid" can prove they were using this brand name before you registered it (presuming that they are still using it and will spend money to fight to keep it) they could retain the right to use it, at least in their home state.

      Good luck.
